International Labour Day is observed on May 1st to celebrate workers' rights and was first celebrated in India in 1923 in Chennai by the Labour Kisan Party. On the same day, Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day mark the formation of the two states in 1960, after the division of the Bombay State based on linguistic lines.
Celebrating Strength and States
In India, International Labour Day is marked by rallies, speeches, and events organized by trade unions to honor the contribution of workers. Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day are celebrated with parades, cultural programs, and official state functions, showcasing regional pride and achievements.
